Month end reporting is stressful. But does it need to be?

I've been in finance for the last 15 years, so I know how stressful month end reporting can be. It's mostly because of 2 things: Too little cash or too little time. It would be awesome if we could create cash or time, but we cannot. Cash is earned through the sale of services or products. And time ticks by regardless of what you spend it on.

What can we do to decrease stress? There is only 1 place to start. Time. You can do nothing about #cash. Your bank balance is the result of historical inflows and outflows. You cannot change the history. So, time is the only thing you can focus on.

We cannot create #time, but we can use it more efficiently. Automation helps us with this. People fear automation, but the reality is it gives our humanity back.

For instance, years ago we created garage doors. And suddenly the task of opening the door was created. Initially you got out and opened the door. Then came automated door motors and voila your were placed back in the position you were before doors. Nice!

Financial #reporting is no different. Compiling financial reports isn't your job. Your job is to read and analyse them. Your job is to think!
